Meyer Zoysia Grass

Meyer zoysia grass is a genetically modified version of Japan’s grass variety called Zoysia japonica. It is slow growing, dark green, and very dense. This plant is much more tolerant of heat than its predecessors, and also demonstrates exceptional cold tolerance. This variety of zoysia grass grows at a faster rate than most other grass. It can withstand droughts and brings a desirable look to your garden with its attractive green look soft texture. Meyer zoysia was developed and released through joint colaborations between the Crops Research Division, Agriculture Research Service, and the U.S. Golf Association Green Section in 1951. The selection upon release was named Meyer in hone of Frank. N. Meyer, a plant explorer for the Department of Agriculture, who made the first collection of zoysia seed in Korea in 1905. Zoysia was named to commemorate Karl von Zios, an Austrian botanist of the 18th century.
